Help & FAQ

⚠️ Important: Browser Cache & Local Storage

ABC To-Do stores your tasks in your browser's local storage. This means your tasks are saved directly on your device and not in the cloud. While this provides privacy and instant access, it also means:

  • Clearing your browser cache or browsing data will permanently delete all your tasks
  • Tasks are only available on the device and browser where you created them
  • Switching browsers or devices means you won't see your existing tasks
  • Using private/incognito mode will not save tasks between sessions

To protect your tasks: Avoid clearing your browser cache unless absolutely necessary. If you need to clear cache, consider writing down your important tasks first.

Getting Started

Your First Task

When you first open ABC To-Do, you'll see a table with empty rows ready to fill and one prepopulated task: "Planning and solitude" set as A1 with an In Process status. This reflects a core best practice — start each day with quiet planning time to review your priorities before diving into work.

Adding a Task

  1. Fill out the empty input fields in the Add a Task section (located under the task table) or begin editing an unused row in the task table
  2. Enter a description of your task
  3. Assign a priority by selecting a letter (A, B, or C) and a number (1, 2, 3, etc.)
  4. Provide the current status (In Process, Completed, Forwarded or Delegated) — new tasks usually have an In Process status
  5. Click the "Add Task" button to add the task as a new row to the task table

Setting Priorities

Priorities consist of two parts: a letter and a number.

  • Letter (A, B, C): Indicates the importance level
    • A: High priority - must be done soon
    • B: Medium priority - should be done
    • C: Low priority - nice to do when time permits
  • Number (1, 2, 3...): Indicates the order within that priority level
    • A1 is your most critical task
    • A2 is your second most critical task
    • B1 is your most important medium-priority task

Click on a task's priority to change it at any time.

Task Statuses

Click on the status input for any task (far left input) to open the status menu. Available statuses:

  • In Process: You're actively working on this task
  • Completed: The task is finished (triggers celebration animation!)
  • Forwarded: You're delaying this task for another day
  • Delegated: You've assigned this task to another person

Editing Tasks

  • Edit Description: Click on the task description to edit it in place
  • Change Priority: Click on the priority (e.g., "A1") to select a new priority
  • Update Status: Click on the status input for any task (far left input) to open the status menu

Removing Tasks

To delete a task from your list, click on the status input (far left) and select "Remove." The task will be permanently deleted from your list. Note: This action cannot be undone, so make sure the task is no longer needed before removing it.

Best Practices

  • Start each day by reviewing your tasks and updating priorities
  • Always work on A1 first, then A2, and so on down the list
  • Limit yourself to 3-5 A-priority tasks to maintain focus
  • Move completed tasks to "Completed" status to track your progress
  • Regularly review and clean up tasks that are no longer relevant (completed tasks, C-priority tasks, etc.)
  • Be honest about priorities - not everything can be an "A" task

FAQ

Q: Can I access my tasks on multiple devices?

A: Currently, tasks are stored locally on your device. Cloud sync functionality may be added in a future update.

Q: What happens if I accidentally delete a task?

A: Unfortunately, deleted tasks cannot be recovered as they're removed from local storage immediately. Be careful when selecting the "Remove" status.

Q: How many tasks can I add?

A: There's no hard limit, but for best results, focus on managing your most important tasks. Too many tasks can make prioritization difficult.

Q: Can I export my tasks?

A: Export functionality is not currently available but may be added in future updates.
